Update 1

Here are interactive streamline figures for Model 2 below.

Both Grids

Yin Only

Yang Only

Model 1 Flow Pattern

Flow lines have been clipped to only show flow near the companion.

Orange. Flow which exits near the orbital plane.

Blue. Flow which exits near the poles.

Fig 1. Flow pattern for Model 1, where (orange) exits near the equatorial plane, and (blue) exits near the poles.

Fig 2. Illustrated flow, where (orange) temporarily bows toward the poles as it flows around the companion, (green) stays on the orbital plane, and (blue) stays close to the orbital plane until passing the companion, then quickly accelerates toward the poles.

Model 2 Flow Pattern

Flow lines have been clipped to only show flow near the companion.

Orange. Flow which exits near the orbital plane.

Blue. Flow which exits near the poles.

Fig 3. Flow pattern for Model 2, where (orange) exits near the equatorial plane, and (blue) exits near the poles.

The hand-drawn lines here are mirrored by the orbital plane.

Fig 4. Illustrated flow, where (orange) travels around the high-pressure region and continues near the orbital plane, (purple) travels along the interior of this lobe-like path, passing close to the companion before deflecting toward the poles, and (blue) travels along the exterior of this lobe until it crosses other streamlines near the companion and is deflected toward the poles.

Fig 5. Streamlines with $\nabla P / \rho = 1$ isosurface (purple) demonstrating strong turnoff from the high-pressure gradient.
