I tried to draw the arrows in the same place on both views. There are two additional green lines on the right image to highlight the flow diverging. (P)rogenitor and (C)ompanion are labeled in red.
Blue: Gas experiences a 'slingshot' effect as it approaches the companion, creating a dense region behind the companion (rotating 'up' in this image).
Orange: The outer edge of this 'slingshot' area, where the effect is most pronounced. Gas is quickly deflected due to the rotating frame.
Green: THESE STREAMLINES ARE NOT SHOWN IN FIG 1. Flow which does not directly interact with the companion will approach ORANGE region, where it is split toward the poles.
